Ashley
BUILDING INDEPENDENCE AND CULTURAL CONNECTION
Case Study – 001
“She now confidently advocates for herself and her child…”
Ashley, 20, experienced displacement and identity challenges growing up without connection to her Aboriginal culture. After leaving an unsafe home environment and abusive relationship, she was referred to the Youth Umbrella Project following assault charges.
Initially hesitant due to past negative experiences with services, Ashley gradually built trust with her YUP Case Manager. Through the program, she connected with Saints College and established links with Youth Projects and VACCA for cultural and family support.
By program completion, Ashley had secured independent housing, maintained school attendance, and regularly engaged with cultural connections. She now confidently advocates for herself and her child, having achieved goals that once seemed unattainable.
